Many people are cautious about getting Granite Countertops because they hear these have more upkeep than Quartz Countertops or other options. This is not always true. Granite in its raw form is more porous than quartz, however all Granite slabs are sealed at the time of manufacture.

Know when and how-to Reseal Granite Countertops

Water Test

You can perform a simple water test to see if your granite countertops need to be re-sealed: Pour a bit of water on the counter – 1/4 cup should be enough. If the granite darkens at that spot meaning it is absorbing water and it is time to re-seal your granite. You can either hire a professional company who offer a written warranty or you can easily do it yourself.

Do It Yourself

Test the product on a small area first and allow a 24-hour cure time to determine the ease of application and the desired results. Ensure surfaces to be treated are dry, clean and free of residues.

Product is to be applied without thinning. Generously saturate the surface with product using a low-pressure hand spray, a clean brush, or similar. Surface should have a mirror-like wet look for 3-5 seconds. Avoid product contact with surrounding areas by covering them.

When the surface becomes touch dry, or after a minimum of 10 minutes, repeat the above step. After the final coat, wait approximately 10 minutes but before the surface dries, then polish the surface thoroughly with lint-free clean, dry, white cloths, towels or similar to remove excess product. Once cured, this product is food contact safe. Use an organic solvent e.g. methylated spirits to clean equipment. Sealer will not prevent surface etching, scuff marks or wear and may lighten or darken some surfaces.
